Stroke caps

When you apply a basic stroke to an open path (any path in which the starting and ending points are not joined), you can tell Expression Design how to draw the ends of the stroke by selecting one of three stroke caps:

  1. Select one or more paths on your page.
  2. Click the Show advanced properties button  at the bottom of the Appearance category of the Properties panel.
  3. Choose from the options in the Caps drop-down list:
    • Flat cap   You can make the stroke stop at exactly the path's endpoints by choosing Flat Cap .
    • Round cap   You can make the stroke extend past the path's endpoints by choosing Round Cap . In this case, the stroke also extends one-half the stroke width, but it adds a semi-circle at the end point.
    • Square cap   You can make the stroke extend past the path's end points by choosing Square Cap . The stroke extends one-half the stroke width, so if you apply a 10-point stroke, it will extend 5 points past the end of the path itself.

Stroke caps: Flat cap (left), Round cap (middle), Square cap (right)

Note that the Caps feature does not affect vector or image brush strokes, but it does work with both B-spline and Bezier paths.
